Habits Overview

What It Is

Habits tracks the daily and weekly rhythms you want to build into your life — from simple yes/no checkboxes to metric-based tracking with targets. Check them off each day and watch your streaks grow.

Why It Matters

Goals give you direction, tasks give you action items, but habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. A 1% daily improvement adds up fast. Habits makes your consistency visible so you can see what's sticking and what's slipping — before a missed week turns into a missed month.

Key Concepts

  • Simple Habits — A yes/no checkbox. Did you do it today? Check it off. Examples: morning workout, journaling, reading.
  • Metric Habits — A number with a target. Track how much, not just whether. Examples: 30 minutes of exercise, 8 glasses of water, 2000 words written. Auto-completes when you hit your target.
  • Weekly Target — How many days per week you want to complete the habit (1–7). A target of 5 means you need to hit it 5 out of 7 days to stay on track.
  • Frequency — Habits are either Weekly (daily tracking with a weekly target) or Monthly (tracked against a monthly target of 1–31).
  • Streaks — Consecutive weeks where you met your weekly target. The longer the streak, the stronger the habit.
  • Weekdays Only — Skip weekends automatically. If enabled, your weekly target caps at 5 and Saturdays/Sundays don't count against you.

What You Can Do

Create a Habit

  • Click "+" in the header.
  • Choose Simple (checkbox) or Metric (number).
  • Enter a title and set your frequency and target.
  • For metric habits, set the target value and unit (e.g., "30 mins").

Track Daily

  • Simple habits: tap the checkbox to mark complete.
  • Metric habits: tap the progress ring, enter your number, and it saves automatically. Hitting or exceeding your target auto-completes the habit.
  • Navigate between days with the arrow buttons. The "Today" button snaps you back to the current date.

Monitor Progress

  • Progress blocks next to each habit show completed/target for the current week (e.g., "5/7 this week").
  • Fire emoji appears when you've met your weekly target.
  • Warning emoji appears when your target is at risk.
  • Toggle Dashboard mode for deeper analytics: monthly bar charts, performance bars per habit, and a time range selector (30d/60d/90d/All).
  • Edit a habit and add one or more URLs under "Links."
  • A link icon appears on the habit — click to open the URL directly.
  • Perfect for habits like "Pay bills" (link to bank site), "Check investments" (link to portfolio), or "Practice guitar" (link to lesson site).

Reorder Habits

  • Open the "..." menu"Edit habits".
  • Drag habits by the grip handle to reorder within their frequency group (Daily, Weekly, Monthly).
  • Click "Save Order" to persist.

Archive & Delete

  • Archive a habit to hide it from your active list while preserving all history. Restore it later from the Archived section.
  • Delete permanently removes the habit and all its history.

Dashboard Mode

Toggle Dashboard mode for a deeper view of your habit data:

  • Monthly calendar — see which days you completed habits, with month navigation.
  • 12-month bar chart — visualize completion rates across the year.
  • Per-habit performance bars — completion percentage for each habit over a selectable time range (30 days, 60 days, 90 days, or all time).

Tips

  • Start with one habit. Add more after the first one sticks for two weeks. Habit stacking works better than habit flooding.
  • Use weekdays-only for work habits. Skipping weekends keeps your streak honest without forcing unnatural routines.
  • Set realistic targets. "5 of 7 days" is more sustainable than "every day." Give yourself grace days built into the target.
  • Metric habits beat simple habits for exercise. Tracking "30 mins" instead of just "worked out" helps you see trends and adjust effort.
  • Add links to reduce friction. If your habit requires opening a specific app or website, link it so it's one tap away.
  • Check your streaks weekly. A growing streak is motivation. A broken streak is a signal to adjust your target, not abandon the habit.

On Mobile

  • Habits appear in your Home dashboard widget with progress indicators.
  • Tap a checkbox or progress ring to complete directly from the home screen.
  • Confetti celebration plays when you complete all of today's required habits.
  • The Chrome Extension side panel also shows your habits for quick tracking while browsing.
  • Home Dashboard — The Habits widget gives you a quick daily view with progress donuts and streak indicators.
  • Goals & Projects — Habits support your goals by building consistent daily practices that compound over time.
  • Chrome Extension — Check off habits from the browser side panel without leaving your current tab.
